Amalou

The recent form tells a story of inconsistency typical of a horse still maturing. Over the last six races, Amalou has finished fifth, first, eighth, eleventh, eighth, and ninth — a scatter that shows neither disaster nor pattern. The yard, run by Daniel and Claire Kubler at Lambourn in Berkshire, is clearly doing something right elsewhere: they have sent out 34 winners this season, which is respectable output. The fact that Amalou is currently active, having raced just a day ago, means there could be another opportunity coming quickly. Whether the horse can return to Windsor, where it clearly felt at home, or break through elsewhere remains to be seen. At this stage, Amalou is one to keep an eye on rather than back with confidence — a work in progress with at least one piece of the puzzle already solved.
