Alpine Girl

She joined Julie Camacho's yard in Norton, North Yorkshire — a stable in fine form, having sent out 46 winners already this season — after previously being trained by James Fanshawe, for whom she won four times. Camacho clearly had a plan for her from the start. Alpine Girl won on her second outing for the new team at Doncaster over five furlongs, and what the trainer has since worked out is that this horse needs conditions to suit her specific strengths: a stiff, uphill five furlongs or six furlongs flat. Put her on a flat, easy track over the shorter trip and she tends to stay on without quite getting there. Get the setup right and she delivers.

Ground conditions matter too. Alpine Girl is at her best on normal or dry ground — she has won 3 of her 8 races on fast, dry ground (38%) and 3 of 9 on normal conditions (33%). Those numbers stand out sharply against her overall record, suggesting she is a different horse altogether when the surface suits. Lingfield Park has been particularly kind to her: two wins from just four races there, which is a striking return for a horse who most often competes at Class 5 level, where the competition is fierce and the win rate across her 22 races at that grade is just 9% — roughly 1 in 11.

Her most recent win came at Pontefract two months ago, on 29 April 2026, and she raced again just yesterday, keeping herself busy and active. Jockey Ross Coakley has been her most regular partner with eight races together, though they have only converted once — the chemistry has not quite clicked between them yet. Camacho believes there may be more to come, describing her home work as being at a decent level. For a horse who has already won seven career races and keeps placing when she does not win, that is an encouraging sign. Alpine Girl is not done yet.
