Trained by Adam Kirby at his yard in Kirtling, on the outskirts of Newmarket, the horse at least has the advantage of being based in one of the most important training centres in the world. Kirby's operation has sent out 6 winners already this season, so the platform is there. Whether Alpaca's Bullet can tap into that form is another question. Having raced as recently as yesterday, this is very much a horse mid-campaign, with time still on its side — two-year-olds develop quickly, and plenty have turned early struggles into something worthwhile.
For now, though, the numbers offer little encouragement. Finishing positions of 8, 7, and 9 suggest a horse that is competitive enough to take its place in a field but not yet threatening to win one. At this stage, finding even a small improvement in form — creeping into the places — would represent genuine progress.
