Luke Morris, who partners the horse regularly, has steered it to one win from five rides together, mirroring the horse's overall record. Behind the scenes sits Sir Mark Prescott, one of Britain's shrewdest trainers, whose Newmarket yard has already sent out 47 winners this season, so the horse is in the right hands.

The one cloud is that Almekarem struggles when asked to step up to Class 4 company—the top tier of races it has attempted. It has tried six times at that level without winning, which suggests its ceiling lies among slightly easier races. That is not a criticism: horses are shaped by their level, and Almekarem is clearly doing its job well enough where it belongs. With form this steady and a trainer of Prescott's calibre in charge, this horse will keep winning. It raced just yesterday, so expect to see it back out soon.
