What works in her favour is the yard she comes from. Trainer D K Weld, based at the Curragh in Co Kildare, is one of the most respected names in Irish racing, and his operation has sent out 33 winners already this season — a high-volume, high-quality yard that tends to know what it is doing when it puts a horse on a track. Horses trained by Weld often improve with experience, and the fact that Almeiyda is returning after a five-month break suggests the team may have been giving her time to develop rather than throwing her into races before she was ready.

She arrives back having had roughly 162 days off, which is a meaningful chunk of time at this stage of a young horse's career. Whether that break has done the trick remains to be seen. For now, she is very much a horse to watch rather than one with a record to shout about — but in a yard firing on all cylinders, there may be more to come.
