Almarada Prince

Midgley himself is having a productive season, with 39 winners sent out from the yard already, so there is no shortage of form or confidence at Westow. Almarada Prince's most regular partner in the saddle is William Pyle, who has ridden him in 7 of his races and won once together — the same 1-in-7 ratio that defines the horse's whole career, which at least suggests a consistency of sorts.

The clearest picture of where this horse belongs comes from the Class 4 level — one step below the top tier, where the competition is solid but not exceptional. At that level, Almarada Prince has won 3 of his 9 races, which is a genuinely strong 1-in-3 record and suggests he can be a real force when conditions suit and the class is right. He also goes particularly well on normal ground, winning 2 of 9 races on a standard surface — double his overall win rate, which is worth noting.

The problem is that he has not won in his last six races, with recent finishes of 8th, 6th, 6th, 6th, 3rd, and 4th. His last victory came at Wolverhampton in December 2024, which is getting on for 19 months ago now. There is still some encouragement in those two placed efforts — a fourth and a third — but the wins have dried up. He raced just yesterday, so he is clearly being kept busy, and with the right race at the right level on the right ground, there is every reason to think a fifth career win is possible. Whether it comes soon is another matter.
