Almarada Prince

Trained by Paul Midgley out of Westow in North Yorkshire, Almarada Prince is part of a yard that has been in sharp form this season, sending out 39 winners. He has been a steady contributor to that record at the level where he fits best — the mid-tier Class 4 races, where he has won 3 from 9 (33%), one win in every three races at that level. That is a genuinely strong number, and it tells you this is a horse who knows his job when the conditions suit.

And those conditions matter. On normal ground, he has won 2 of his 8 races at 25%, which is where he really hits his stride. William Pyle, who has ridden him more than anyone else, picked up his one win from their seven outings together — a 1 in 7 record that mirrors the horse's overall profile: respectable, reliable, but not explosive.

The concern right now is the drought. Almarada Prince has not won in his last six races, and his recent form makes for uncomfortable reading — finishing sixth, sixth, sixth, eighth, second, and tenth. That second place is a flicker of encouragement, but the trend is mostly flat. His last victory came at Wolverhampton in December 2024, which is now over 18 months ago. He raced just yesterday, so he is clearly being kept busy, but the wins have not come despite the activity.

He is not a horse chasing big prizes — his career has been built at a sensible level, and that is nothing to apologise for. What Almarada Prince needs is things to click in his favour again: the right ground, the right race grade, and perhaps a return to somewhere like Thirsk, where his story began back in August 2023. The talent to win is clearly there. The question is whether it surfaces before the season moves on.
