What makes the situation mildly interesting is the timing. All Is Bright hasn't raced in roughly three months, which is a meaningful break for a young horse that was clearly struggling for form. Whether that time off reflects a minor physical setback, a rethink by the trainer, or simply patience is hard to say — but returning horses sometimes come back improved, particularly at this early stage of a career when horses are still developing physically and mentally.
The trainer is J.S. Bolger, one of the most respected names in Irish racing, based at Coolcullen in Co Carlow. The yard has sent out 7 winners this season, so there's clearly no shortage of talent coming through — but with a string of any size, not every horse can be a star. All Is Bright, at this point, looks like one of the yard's projects rather than one of its prizes. That's not a criticism; plenty of horses take time to figure things out, and a patient operation like Bolger's is probably the right place to be if you're a slow burner. Whether All Is Bright turns out to be exactly that, or simply a horse that finds its level in lower-grade races, the next run back from this break will tell us a good deal more.
