On fast, dry ground he becomes a different proposition altogether, winning three of his ten races there — a 30% win rate that suggests he thrives when the track is quick underfoot. Over the longer trips, from a mile and six furlongs upwards, he has won once in three attempts, which hints at genuine class at extended distances. His most recent victory came this week at Beverley on 28 July, a bright reminder that he still has plenty to offer.

Recent form tells a more complicated story. His last six runs show a win, a second place, and then three outings where he was beaten into the teens. This is a horse still capable of winning — last week proved that — but one who also faces plenty of ordinary days. He races typically at Class 5 level, where he has won four of nineteen races (21%), the kind of record that makes him a regular player in that bracket without quite making him a standout. Archie Watson's Upper Lambourn yard continues to fire winners this season with sixty-two to date, and while Alazwar has been partnered most often by Miss Brodie Hampson, their record together stands at just two wins from twenty-seven rides (7%), suggesting the partnership is more workmanlike than symbiotic.
