Aggagio

The key to Aggagio is simple: wet ground and Goodwood racecourse. On wet or muddy ground, he has won 5 times from just 12 races — that is an extraordinary 42% win rate, meaning he wins almost every other time conditions suit him. On slightly soft ground, add another 2 wins from 7. That is 7 of his 9 career wins coming when the going is testing. On a dry, fast surface, he is a different animal entirely. Goodwood is the other obsession — he has won there 4 times from 18 races, more than anywhere else, including a Class 2 there in September 2022 and, most recently, a win as recently as June 2025. For a horse at his level, having a track you genuinely love is a real asset.

His current jockey, Caoilin Quinn, has ridden him in 14 races and won 3 of them — a win rate of about 1 in 5 — and the partnership clearly has an understanding. After the Haydock win in April 2023, Quinn was refreshingly honest about who deserved the credit, pointing to Josh Moore's insistence on making the trip north and his clear tactical instructions as the reason it worked.

The last 6 races have brought no wins, and trainer Gary Moore has spoken openly about rebuilding Aggagio's confidence following a fall over fences, which set him back. Moore has been careful with him since, opting to keep him over hurdles while the horse finds his feet again. The trainer is equally clear-eyed about what Aggagio needs to win: soft enough ground, but not too deep. The yard itself has been in superb form this season — 99 winners and counting — so Aggagio is in good hands while he waits for the right conditions to come back around.
