Aeronautic won twice in quick succession across July 2024, first at Dundalk and then at Leopardstown less than two weeks later, suggesting a horse hitting its stride at exactly the right moment. Since then, though, it has gone six races without winning — finishing third twice and drifting out of contention in others. The recent form reading of 4-6-7-3-3 tells you this is a horse that gets into races and competes, but something is preventing it from getting its head in front when it matters.

Dylan Browne McMonagle has been in the saddle for five of Aeronautic's 12 races, winning once together — that is a 20% win rate, or 1 win from every 5 rides, which is actually a decent ratio in a sport where finding winners is genuinely hard. The question is whether that combination can rediscover the spark that made July 2024 look so promising.

What gives Aeronautic's story some context is the yard behind it. Joseph Patrick O'Brien, operating out of Owning Hill in County Kilkenny, has sent out 171 winners already this season — that is not a small operation quietly hoping for the best. This is one of the sharpest training yards in Ireland, which means Aeronautic is still being aimed at races for a reason. The team clearly believes there is a win in the horse somewhere. Given that it raced just yesterday and remains active, that confidence has not evaporated. Whether Aeronautic can finally reward it is the question worth watching.
