Both of those wins have come at Plumpton, the small, tight track in the East Sussex countryside not far from the yard where it's trained. That's not a coincidence. Two wins from 10 races at one course — while barely troubling the scoreboard anywhere else — is the clearest possible signal that something about Plumpton suits this horse. Maybe the turns, maybe the terrain, maybe just familiarity. Whatever the reason, when A Tickatickatiming shows up at Plumpton, it arrives as something closer to a genuine contender. The trouble is it hasn't won there since November 2023, now nearly 29 months ago, and the last six runs have all ended without a victory, with recent finishes of third, fourth, fourth, second, fourth, and third — always involved, never quite first.

Trainer Sheena West operates out of Lewes, just a short drive from Plumpton, which might partly explain the course affinity. Her yard has sent out eight winners this season, so the operation is ticking over. Regular rider Marc Goldstein has partnered this horse in 12 of its 22 races, winning once together — roughly 1 in every 12 times they've combined, which reflects the horse's overall profile well: consistent, competitive, but not a frequent winner.

The level at which A Tickatickatiming competes — Class 5, which is towards the lower end of British racing — means the prize money is modest and the fields are full of horses in similar form. Winning even at this level takes everything going right on the day.
