A Moments Madness

The one moment that really counts came at Ffos Las on 16 April 2025, when A Moments Madness finally broke through for a first career win. Ffos Las is a tight, undulating track in west Wales that rewards horses who travel smoothly and handle a winding course — it's not a track where you can hide weaknesses. Winning there means something. At Class 4 level — the solid, workaday tier of British racing, a few steps below the top — the record reads 1 win from 8 races, which works out at roughly 1 in every 8, or about 12%. Competitive, but not yet dominant.

The recent form is worth a second look. Reading the last six runs from most recent backwards — 11, 3, 3, 1, 2 — you can see a horse that was finishing towards the back of fields before suddenly reeling off a win and two thirds. That turnaround from struggling to placing consistently is the kind of shape trainers love to see. Whether it continues is the question.

The yard behind this horse is in serious form. Fergal O'Brien, based in Withington in Gloucestershire, has sent out 90 winners already this season — a number that puts him firmly among the busier, more successful operations in the sport. When a trainer is firing in winners at that rate, it tells you the horses are fit, well-managed, and pointed at the right races. A Moments Madness is in good hands, even if it hasn't always looked like a star.

Having raced just one day ago, this is an active, current runner — and with that Ffos Las win still fresh, there's every reason to think the team will be looking to build on it while the horse is in form.
