The recent form string of 3-3-–-3-5-2 paints a familiar picture: third, third, a gap in the record, third again, fifth, second. Lots of podium positions, no winner's enclosure. That Cheltenham success back in May 2024 is now nearly two years ago, and in the six races since, the horse has not been able to repeat it. Whether that Cheltenham day represented a career peak or simply a good afternoon that has not yet been matched, it is hard to say — but at nine years old, horses do not tend to suddenly reinvent themselves.
Frederick Philipson-Stow has been the regular partner throughout most of this horse's career, aboard for seven of the eight races and responsible for the one win between them. That gives them a shared win rate of roughly 1 in every 7 races together — modest, but there is clearly a familiarity there. The pair have spent most of their time competing at Class 5 level, which is the grassroots end of British racing — competitive enough, but a long way from the big occasions. The fact that the one standout result came at Cheltenham, a track associated with far grander stages, is the small detail that makes A Jet Of Our Own slightly more interesting than the bare numbers suggest.
Still active and raced as recently as 23 days ago, this is a horse that keeps turning up and keeps finishing in the places. For anyone connected to the yard, that consistency probably feels both encouraging and maddening. The win is there on the record. Getting the next one has proven rather harder.
