The breeding is worth a closer look. The sire, Saxon Warrior, was one of the best two-year-olds in recent memory before going on to win the 2000 Guineas as a three-year-old — a high-class horse who has started to make his mark as a stallion. The dam's side comes through Shalaa, a sprinting specialist who was electrifyingly fast over short distances. Put those two together and you would expect a horse that combines sharpness with the ability to get a slightly longer trip as it matures — though at two, that early speed from the Shalaa side could be a real asset.
The trainer, Edward Bethell, has had a fine season out of his Middleham base in North Yorkshire, sending out 59 winners. That is a yard in seriously good form, and a horse making their debut for a trainer running hot is always worth watching — they tend not to run a youngster until they believe it is ready.
